Cost Segregation Associate

As a Cost Segregation Associate, you will assist project managers and partners with limited supervision in completing tax incentive studies for a variety of clients. You will support the Engineering Team and our clients on a regular basis and be an essential component of our growing practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete Cost Segregation studies:
o Evaluate real estate expenditures using the cost segregation audit techniques guide, tangible property regulations, and other regulatory guidance
o Categorize costs to determine the basis of assets
o Segregate capital expenditures into appropriate federal income tax depreciation classifications.
o Review and analyze construction drawings, contractor’s final schedule of values, invoices, purchase orders, appraisals, and other relevant detailed cost information relating to select assets
o Write detailed reports and narratives
o Prepare depreciation schedules, methodology memorandums, and properly apply change in accounting methods
o Research, understand, and analyze internal revenue codes, treasury regulations, tax court cases, and other legislative and regulatory guidance
o Document, review, and assemble comprehensive work product for review by IRS and FTB examiners
• Assist with other engineering-based studies
• Perform site visits for clients within the U.S.
• Interview clients in-person, over the phone, and through video conferencing
• Communicate and interact directly with clients, CPAs, administrative staff, partners, and CEO about project status, etc.

Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience with Cost Segregation studies required
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Engineering, or related field preferred
• Candidate who is pursuing a CPA license or Professional Engineering license preferred
• Previous experience with CAD, Drafting, and/or BIM a plus
• Previous work experience in AEC industry a plus
• Some travel required (up to 30% of work time traveling)
• Highly Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Time management and attention to detail
• Ability to prioritize and multi-task on a variety of tasks and projects
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, strong documentation skills

Project Coordinator – Government Relations

As a Project Coordinator you will provide full and diversified project and administrative support to the Engineering Team. You will serve as a facilitator to prepare and maintain reports, coordinate schedules, obtain requested information, lead marketing efforts, and other related activities while looking out for the best interests of the team.

Key Responsibilities

• Project management and report preparation with an ability to learn concepts quickly.
• Manage the Allocation Letter pursuit for a docket of clients in the 179D EECB service line.
• Coordinate logistics for site visits in the 179D EECB & Cost Segregation service lines.
• Manage Outlook calendars, coordinate schedules, plan appointments and activities.
• Use tact, discretion, and good judgment in handling sensitive and confidential information.
• Compose and type correspondence, memos, and emails.
• Assist with meeting preparation and follow up, including maintaining agendas, creating pre-meeting packets, taking notes if needed, distributing, and checking on follow-up items.
• Prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain high quality attention to detail.
• Demonstrate high levels of professionalism when communicating in person, by email or by phone.

Tax Law Intern

Our Tax Law Intern will assist with research and briefing of court cases, statutes, and regulations related to federal and state(s) tax incentive programs. The Tax Law Intern will learn the foundations of BRAYN’s tax incentives, including qualification and proper substantiation for federal and state tax programs and assist in audit defense of the same. At times, Tax Law Intern will also assist partners and staff with current tax studies, such as researching issues and drafting technical project descriptions.

Key Responsibilities

 Research and briefing on major court cases for use in company trainings, audits, and marketing presentations
 Support for federal and state tax examinations, including:
• Reviewing, summarizing, and drafting responses to audit correspondence,
• Preparing protest letters and responses to information document requests
• Assisting with audit meeting presentations and preparing for same
 Communicate with partners and staff regarding opinions, pending cases, and publications relevant to BRAYN’s tax services
 Develop an understanding of the available Federal & State tax programs available and review statutes to develop arguments for improving service lines
 Assist on R&D tax credit and other incentive studies as needed, including:
• Write detailed reports and narratives,
• Research and analyze the Internal Revenue Code, Treasury Regulations, and relevant court cases
• Document, review, and assemble comprehensive work product for review by IRS and state examiners

R&D Tax Consultants

As a Tax Consultant you will assist tax managers and partners with limited supervision in completing tax incentive studies for a variety of clients throughout the United States.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete studies for the R&D tax credit, as well as other specialty incentives as needed
• Obtain and analyze client data using Excel models
• Write detailed reports and narratives
• Research, understand, and analyze many internal revenue codes, treasury regulations, tax court cases, and other
cases
• Document, review, and assemble comprehensive work product for review by IRS and FTB examiners
• Perform site visits for clients as needed around the country
• Interview clients in-person, over the phone, and via e-mail
• Communicate and interact directly with clients, CPAs, administrative staff, partners, and CEO about project
status, etc.

Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience with R&D tax credit projects in quantification and documentation required
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Engineering, or related field required
• Candidate who is pursuing a CPA license or Professional Engineering license preferred
• Some travel required (client site visits: about 5-10% of work time traveling)
