BRAYN is looking for a new BRAYNiac! Interested in joining our dynamic team? We are in search of an Engineering Associate to join our practice! As an Engineering associate, you will assist project managers and partners with limited supervision in completing tax incentive studies for a variety of clients primarily in Texas and California. You will support the team and our clients on a regular basis and be an essential component of our growing practice.

BRAYN Consulting LLC is a consulting firm that supports CPA firms and their clients in taking full advantage of specialty tax credits and incentives. We are currently a small firm, but growing at a fast pace and we need high quality talent. We primarily serve closely-held, mid-sized companies. This allows our partners and staff to experience a penumbra of issues, challenges, and opportunities different than those afforded by Big-4 or Top 10 Accounting Firms.

Location: Los Angeles, Ca or Houston, TX (Remote Position)

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete studies for Cost Segregation, 179D Energy Efficient Commercial Building Deductions, as well as other specialty incentives as needed
  • Perform takeoffs using construction drawings and site inspections
  • Estimate unit costs using industry standard techniques, RS Means, and other industry costing data
  • Analyze construction cost ledgers, contractor payment applications, and other cost documentation
  • Perform energy modeling analyses for 179D studies
  • Write detailed reports and narratives,
  • Research, understand, and analyze many internal revenue codes, treasury regulations, tax court cases, and other cases
  • Document, review, and assemble comprehensive work product for review by IRS and FTB examiners
  • Perform site visits for clients in Texas, California, and as needed around the country
  • Interview clients in-person, over the phone, and via e-mail
  • Communicate and interact directly with clients, CPAs, administrative staff, partners, and CEO about project status, etc.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Engineering, or related field required
  • Candidate who is pursuing a CPA license or Professional Engineering license preferred
  • Previous experience with Cost Segregation studies or construction estimating (preferably in mechanical, electrical, and/or plumbing trades) ideal
  • Previous experience with Energy Modeling a plus
  • Previous experience with CAD, Drafting, and/or BIM a plus
  • Previous work experience in AEC industry a plus
  • Some travel required (up to 30% of work time traveling)
  • Highly Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Time management and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task on a variety of tasks and projects
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, strong documentation skills
  • Strong client interaction skills
  • Must have reliable transportation and secure work location
  • Self-starter with a roll-up-your-sleeves attitude
